Uniform

Daily writing prompt
If you were forced to wear one outfit over and over again, what would it be?

Jeans and a NaNoWriMo t-shirt . . . actually, no force required, this is pretty much my daily uniform.

Do you have a “go-to” outfit?

My beloved NaNo t-shirts are something of a family joke. On laundry day, you can see up to ten navy or black t-shirts hanging to dry. My kids used to ask “where are we going?” if they saw me in anything else. But to be honest, it never occurred to me that this wasn’t . . . typical.

As in, neurotypical — because in recent years, I’ve learned that I’m definitely not. So, my preference for the same outfit is another check-mark in that column. Closely related is the fact that these shirts are just so dang comfortable. I maintain that everyone loves comfort, not just neuro-spicy folks.

I won’t pretend, though, that the particular appeal of those t-shirts wasn’t just the perfect weight cotton and sleeve length. It was the little whispered reminder that in addition to all the other things that identified me — wife, mom, child, teacher, chore-doer — I had forged for myself another identity:

Writer. Specifically, a writer that had, more than once, written 50,000 words in the space of a November.

What does your go-to outfit say about you?
